As the importance of prescription drugs in medical care continues to grow, policy makers increasingly will confront the challenge of making medications affordable and accessible to all Americans. Recent state and federal debates have focused on the prescription drug needs of the elderly in Medicare, but many other Americans, including Medicaid beneficiaries, cant afford to fill prescriptions, according to a new national study from the Center for Studying Health System Change (HSC).

At the media briefing, HSC will release a new Issue Brief—Prescription Drug Access: Not Just a Medicare Problem. The study is based on information from HSCs 2000-01 Community Tracking Study Household Survey, a nationally representative survey involving approximately 60,000 people in 33,000 families.
