ASHINGTON, D.C.—Ann S. O’Malley, M.D., M.P.H., an assistant professor at Georgetown University Medical Center, has joined the Center for Studying Health System Change (HSC) as a senior health researcher.

A graduate of the University of Rochester School of Medicine, O’Malley completed her residency in preventive medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center and an internship in pediatrics at Georgetown University Medical Center. She is board certified in preventive medicine and received her master’s degree from Johns Hopkins and bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College.

O’Malley’s research has focused on cancer prevention—particularly breast, cervical and colorectal cancer-and on access to care among low-income and minority populations. She has served as principal investigator for several National Cancer Institute grants, and her research has been published in numerous journals, including Health Affairs, Archives in Internal Medicine, American Journal of Preventive Medicine and the American Journal of Public Health. She also has served as a peer reviewer for several journals, including the Journal of the American Medical Association, the Annals of Internal Medicine, Health Services Research and the American Journal of Public Health. She is a member of AcademyHealth and the Society of General Internal Medicine.

"Dr. O’Malley will add depth and breadth to HSC’s ongoing research on access to care in general and on racial and ethnic health disparities in particular," said Paul Ginsburg, Ph.D., president of HSC, a nonpartisan policy research organization funded principally by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Prior to joining the Georgetown faculty, O’Malley, while a resident in preventive medicine, conducted field work in the following public health agencies: Office of Assistant Secretary for Health, Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; the Prince George’s County, Md., Department of Health; and the Office of Maternal Child Health.
