Unmet Medical Needs Among all U.S. Adults (Ages 18 and Over)
Note:This table shows that the percent of all U.S. adults that reported not being able to get the medical care they needed (i.e., had an "unmet medical need") increased from 1996-97 to 2000-01. Adults who were most likely to have an unmet need in 2000-01 included those with family income below the federal poverty level, adults in fair or poor health, and adults living in the western region of the U.S. Also, uninsured adults were considerably more likely to have an unmet need than their insured counterparts, whereas Medicare enrollees were the least likely to have an unmet need. Uninsured adults were somewhat more likely to have an unmet need in 2000-01 compared to 1996-97.
