Physician Researcher Joins HSC

ASHINGTON, D.C.—Hoangmai H. Pham, M.D., M.P.H., a general internal medicine fellow at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, has joined the Center for Studying Health System Change (HSC) as a physician researcher.
A graduate of Temple University School of Medicine, Pham completed her internal medicine residency at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. She is board certified in internal medicine. Pham received her master’s degree from Johns Hopkins and a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Harvard University.
"We are extremely fortunate to add a physician researcher of Mai Pham’s caliber to our research staff," said Len Nichols, Ph.D., vice president of HSC, a nonpartisan policy research organization funded exclusively by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
After completing her residency, Pham worked as a staff physician at a clinic in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where she also served as project director of a Population Council pilot program that trained Vietnamese gynecology residents in evidence-based medicine and research methodology.
A Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar, Pham has conducted research on Medicare managed care, quality of care and medical training in chronic illness. She has served as a reviewer for the journals Health Affairs, Medical Care and the Journal of General Internal Medicine and is a member of the American College of Physicians, the Association for Health Services Research and the Society for General Internal Medicine.
HSC’s main research focus is the Community Tracking Study, which consists of national surveys of consumer households and physicians in 60 nationally and geographically representative communities across the country. HSC also conducts intensive site visits to 12 of these communities.
The Center for Studying Health System Change is a nonpartisan policy research organization committed to providing objective and timely research on the nation’s changing health system to help inform policy makers and contribute to better health care policy. HSC, based in Washington, D.C., is funded exclusively by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and affiliated with Mathematica Policy Research, Inc.
