WASHINGTON, DC—Matthew M. Davis, M.D., M.A.P.P., associate professor of pediatrics, internal medicine and public policy at the University of Michigan, has joined the Center for Studying Health System Change (HSC) as a part-time senior health researcher.

A graduate of Harvard Medical School, Davis completed a combined residency in pediatrics and internal medicine at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital in Boston. He is board certified in both pediatrics and internal medicine and serves on the faculty of the University of Michigan Medical School. Davis received his master’s degree in public policy from the University of Chicago and serves as an associate professor at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan.

Davis will maintain his academic appointment at the University of Michigan while working on a range of research projects at HSC, including consumer-driven health plans, health care consumerism, obesity and children’s health issues.

"We are extremely fortunate to add a physician-scholar of Matt Davis’ caliber to our research team, especially because of his strong interest in public policy," said Paul B. Ginsburg, Ph.D., president of HSC, a nonpartisan policy research organization funded principally by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Since his research fellowship as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar, Davis’ research has focused on the financing and delivery of health services within the context of insurance coverage and public policy, and in understanding employers’ and insurers’ decision making regarding health plans. He has received funding for his research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

His research has been published in numerous journals, including the Journal of the American Medical Association, Health Affairs, Pediatrics, Journal of General Internal Medicine, Ambulatory Pediatrics, American Journal of Public Health, American Journal of Preventive Medicine and Health Services Research. He also has also presented his research focusing on national patterns of insurance coverage for child and adult vaccinations to the National Immunization Program and the National Vaccine Advisory Committee.

He is a member of the Society for Pediatric Research, Society of General Internal Medicine, AcademyHealth and the Ambulatory Pediatric Association.
